Where to stay in Canggu, Bali? my 9 favourite hostels in Canggu per area

Canggu is an upcoming coastal village in Bali (Indonesia) with a laid back surf vibe and lots of healthy hotspots. I loved Canggu the most during my stay in Bali and stayed here for 3 months. It’s a perfect place for surfing, healthy food, yoga and watching the amazing sunsets. Are you planning to visit Canggu but don’t know yet where to stay in Canggu? Don’t worry, below you will find the hostels in Canggu I loved the most!

❤︎

The 4 areas of Canggu

Canggu isn’t that big but most things are spread out and there is no public transport. You need a scooter to get around. If you don’t want to rent a scooter I suggest to stay at Batu Bolong as this area is the most central part of Canggu and you are able to walk to the beach, restaurants/shops and different areas.

There are a lot of places to stay in Canggu, I will divide them by the following 4 areas.

BALI TIPS: Where to go travelling in Bali – My Bali solo travel itinerary

Where to stay in Canggu – The areas

Pantai Pererenan

This is the most peaceful area and surrounded by rice fields. A lot of people stay at this area in a luxury villa. For this area you need a scooter/taxi to get to restaurants and shops there is nothing on walking distance. If you are looking for the Canggu vibe but want a quiet place to stay, this is perfect!

This is a beach with free parking all day.

Echo Beach

This beach is after Batu Bolong beach more crowded. You will find La Brisa (my favourite place on earth!) here at the beach. So please bring a visit to this beach club and don’t forget to bring your camera, everything is nicely decorated! It’s a perfect place for lunch, breakfast, dinner and drinks.

During the evening you have to pay a small amount for parking your scooter.

Tip: Go to this place during sunset and drink a fresh coconut!

Batu Bolong Beach

The Batu Bolong Beach is the most crowded and central beach. It’s the perfect place if you love to be surrounded by other people/tourists. The most famous places to go are The Lawn (relax here during the day at the swimming pool) and Old Man’s (perfect for drinks in the evening).

What I love about this place is the live music in the evening at the beach and lots of restaurants where you can eat/drink or relax.

During the evening you have to pay a small amount for parking your scooter.

Funny fact: I am writing this blog from the Kos One Hostel at Batu Bolong Beach as you see on the map below.

Finns Beach Club / Pantai Berawa

At this area you will find Finns Beach Club. Some people love this club some people hate it because it destroys the relaxed vibe of Canggu. But you will find lots of nice restaurants and shops in this street. Finss is not my place but for sure you should bring a visit!

This is a beach with free parking all day.

Tip: Go to Ruko Cafe for lunch or to Nude in this street. Loved these places!

My favourite hostels in Canggu

Hostel Ngeluwungan Boutique Hostel (Pantai Pererenan)

The Ngeluwungan Boutiqe Hostel is located just a few steps from Pererenan Beach and 8 minutes walk to Echo beach. What I liked about this hostel is the outdoor pool with comfortable sunbeds and the friendly staff of this place!

The area where the hostel is located is very quiet and just outside the hustle and bustle of Canggu.

This accommodation has femaile dorms, mixed dorms or you can choose for a private room, all of course with airconditioning.

Ideal for: backpackers who love to meet new people but don’t want to stay in a party hostel.

Where to stay in Canggu

The Hideout Hostel (Pantai Pererenan)

The Hideout Hostel is a bit more far from the beach than the previous hostel, it’s more of a 20 minutes walk. So if you stay in this hostel and want to go to the beach, a scooter would be great.

The hostel offers free yoga classes and I loved the relaxed vibe at this place. Is perfect to meet new people near the pool or just to relax and read a nice book. One of my favourite places to stay in Canggu when I am looking for a more relaxed vibe!

A big plus: the free wifi is great at this place!

Hostels in Canggu

Hostel Rhythm & Rumble (Echo Beach)

The Rhythm & Rumble Hostel is a new hostel and located just 7 minutes walk from Echo Beach.

This hostel gives you more privacy because of the black curtains at each bed. All the rooms are very clean and everything is new.

During my stay it was a bit more quiet so I just met a few other backpackers. The hostel has a swimming pool with relaxing sunbeds, a spa and a restaurant with really nice food.

Ideal for: backpackers who are not looking for a party hostel
Location

Caroline Hostel (Echo Beach)

The Caroline Hostel is located just 6 minutes walk from Echo Beach. The beds were really comfortable and got curtains for more privacy.

I loved to water refill at this place and the friendly staff who was able to help you with everything. All the dorms are small with a maximum of 4 beds.

In the hostel wasn’t really a backpackers vibe, so if you are looking for a more relaxed place this is a really good place to stay.

The hostel has 2 indoor pools and no outdoor pool, that’s something I missed at this place.

Ideal for: backpackers who don’t mind if they don’t meet other people during their stay.

Hostels in Canggu

Gypsy Moon Hostel (between Echo Beach and Batu Bolong Beach)

The Gypsy Moon Hostel is one of my favourite places to stay in Canggu! The hostel is not at walking distance from the beach so you need a scooter or a Grab (taxi). As everything is spread out in Canggu this hostel is centrally located between Echo Beach and Batu Bolong Beach.

The hostel has a really nice pool where you will meet lots of other backpackers. I loved it that the hostel has no party vibe but everyone loved to meet new people.

The interior of this hostel is pretty amazing and it makes it for me one of the prettiest places to stay in Canggu.

Ideal for: backpackers who want to meet people but not looking for a party hostel

Batu Bolong Beach

Black Pearl Hostel (Batu Bolong Beach)

The Black Pearl Hostel is located just 5 minutes walk from the Batu Bolong Beach and it’s perfect if you don’t want to rent a scooter. If you want to walk to Echo Beach it’s just 600 meters, so this hostel is one of the hostels in Canggu that’s best located with restaurants, shops and beaches at walking distance.

The vibe in this hostel is relaxed and the place is filled with young backpackers. You will defenitely meet new people at this place.

I loved the friendly staff, the 2 swimmingpools and the two bars with one of them on the rooftop. The hostel has a bit more of a party vibe.

Ideal for: young backpackers (the hostel is not quiet, music in the bar at the rooftop)

Batu Bolong Beach

Kos One Hostel (Batu Bolong Beach)

The Kos One Hostel is located in the most central area of Batu Bolong, just a few minutes walk to the Batu Bolong Beach. You will find lots of restaurants and shops on walking distance in the main street.

This hostel doesn’t feel like a hostel, more like a luxury hotel, so that’s why the prices are bit higher for this hostel. Evertything at this hostel is new, clean, has luxury and it’s perfect to shoot some nice Instagram shots!

This is defenitely one of the most luxury places to stay in Canggu when it comes to a hostel! Also the beds are not just small beds, but almost double beds.

The restaurant of this hostel has amazing food and I loved the pool of this place, it’s called Alternative Beach.

If you are looking for luxury but still love the hostel vibe, you know now where to stay in Canggu!

Ideal for: backpackers and couples who are looking for the luxury of a hotel but want to meet new people.

La Boheme Hostel (Pantai Barawa)

In the street of this hostel are several restaurants and shops so it’s not necessary to rent a scooter.

I loved the vibe at the pool and the lounge area, it’s perfect to hang at. Tip: try the pancakes at the lounge area!
